This unlacquered brass knob from Annabelle Selldorf’s Vica collection is the perfect size, feels great in hand, and becomes more beautiful with use. I’ve used this knob on a number of projects over the years and never grow tired of it’s beautiful simplicity.

We’re looking for a classic, monochromatic felt to grommet and hang on the wall in large panels, like a tapestry. I think this wool felt from Johanna Daimer will fit the bill perfectly.

The Lever House

A: Well, I’ll restrain the answer to my present location (New York). The Lever House (1952) by Skidmore, Owens, and Merrill. Go see it here.

conceptual study model

While digging through my archives the other day, I ran across this image. It’s one of the few remaining photos from a student project that has long ceased to exist and, for which, nearly all photos were lost during a computer heist.

In any case, it was a lovely model. It went on like this – in an undulating pattern – for nearly six feet. It was fabricated with raw steel rods, galvanized metal strips, wire mesh, fiberglass cloth, and catalytic resin and was completely bound in monofilament thread.

It was a conceptual study model, intended to articulate detail and materiality as well as an overall organization for the building. Now, it’s just a beautiful image.

After five days of demolition, we have a nice, clean, raw space to begin work.
