KMTOWNHOUSE Salon
Manhattan, New York, NY / 2008
Kevin Mancuso is a celebrity hair stylist who operates his styling lab in an elegant Harlem townhouse. The space is clean and modern, allowing Kevin a blank canvas for his own creativity while providing simple comforts for his clientele.
Custom-designed shelving maintains the openness of the space, provides focus and depth in an otherwise isolated corner, and helps define an intimate seating area. The light steel framework is compression-fit between the floor and ceiling, accomodating an uneven floor and enhancing the visual lightness of the unit. The glass shelves are designed to utilize existing lighting to disappear, allowing the products appear to float. A low-slung cabinet anchors the unit both structurall and visually, creating an effect of height in a limited space. The finished piece reflects to the client's practical, minimal aesthetic.
